** spoiler alert **

Okay. So I totally went into the book knowing it was a junior novel and that as a 30 year old woman I’m not the target audience but that’s not why I gave it 2 stars.

I gave it2 stars because though the book claims to be about cropsy, it isn’t. Cropsy is a real urban legend (and real ish person) with a very specific backstory. It’s not just the name of someone or something spooky like the Boogeyman. Watch the Netflix documentary. It’s great. The cropsy in this book is more like Jason from the Friday the 13th franchise.

Also this book as 11 main characters 2 secondary characters and a handful of other named but less important characters. And they are all kinda the same one note so it was really hard to tell them apart.

I would have definitely picked this book up as a 9 year old but would have gone “ugh I’m bored with all this drama, where’s the scary part??”

And it did an okay job once the girls were at the camp out at night time. But the first 80 pages were worthless and it wrapped up super quickly and threw the ending into an epilogue.
