A thoughtful, moving story about a young girl trying to connect with her biological mother, travelling with her Indian adoptive family to Sri Lanka in the midst of a brutal civil war. It's definitely a stylized story intending to compare and contrast the war-torn areas of Sri Lanka with India at the time. The girl, Amudha, is such a bright, daring personality, she shapes and carries the entire story and I love that a lot. Even though the movie looks at a very heavy conflict, her character makes this something you could watch over and over.

a touching story of a girl who is told on her 9th birthday that she is adopted. as she pulls her family from the known to the unknown, they put themselves in danger to help her find her roots - warriors and all.

its 2+ hours are well worth the time. my introduction to Mani Ratman.

On her ninth birthday, Amuda learns that her parents and two brothers are not hr biological family.
Determined to find her birth mother (and father), she embarks on a search that takes her and her (adopted) parents to war-torn Sri lanka to find the woman who abandoned her as a newborn in order to fight for peace.

A genuine tear-jerker.

Nicely written and effectively directed.

Bravo to the director for excellent story telling.
The brother's innocent inquiry to his sister in bridal gown about the groom he had chosen for her sister during the wedding sums up the whole tradition of marriage custom of the region in one sentence. That is directing without going through the lengthly explanation of how the marriage was arranged.

A heartwarming, beautifully told story. The subject is handled with incredible sensitivity.
