Lorna Landvik’s novels are often written with heartfelt insight into small town life, and her most recent work does not disappoint. This novel had me “catching feelings” within the first few pages, and her intelligent writing kept me interested in the lives of the characters throughout the rest of the story. It never ceases to amaze me how she can make normal lives so interesting and heartwarming! I really appreciated how throughout the novel, each character’s individual story wove beautifully into the next, giving readers a full picture of how the characters fit together by the end. As well, the cast of characters was diverse and complex their perspectives were (a sullen teenage boy, a separated working mom, a widowed latina mother, a lesbian publishing assistant, the list goes on!) . There are gripping moments, touching moments, and many joyous moments, but most of all, the moments in this book will fill readers with a sense of nostalgia, warmth, and love of life. I aspire to be a radical hag!
